These Food Places are serious about sustainability

The Table Nourishment

As we head deeper into the 2020’s, sustainability continues to be a hot topic all over the world. Homes and businesses are doing what they can to live and operate in a more eco-friendly manner. This kind of thinking not only helps to improve the general quality of life for people from all over the world, but it protects our ecosystems and preserves the natural resources at our disposal for gen Z’s and the generations that will follow. From well known franchises to Cape Town spots that have been pioneering sustainable operations for years, here are some of the best food places to support if you’d like to join the cause.

Well Known Food Places That Have Joined The Party

I was first inspired to write this blog after a trip to Mugg & Bean, where the waiter told me that it was now possible to order a milkshake with vegan milk. Yum! Places like Kauai are taking this to another level, and have been offering more eco-friendly menu choices for years. The next time you visit your favourite spot, ask them what they offer in terms of more sustainable food and drinks options. You may well be very surprised to learn that there are more than a few options to choose from. Even Burger King has started to sell vegan burgers, which might not necessarily be the healthiest choice, but is a step in the right direction at least!

The OZCF Market

On a healthier note, The OZCF Market (also known as the Granger Bay or Oranjezicht City Farm Market) has been a champion of organic veggies since it was first started. They also don’t use any plastic at all in their operations, which is good news for our oceans and the environment as a whole. Their efforts to preserve not only South African culture, but to make a difference in improving sustainability in the country, have been recognised with acclaim and awards over the years. The market and farm continue to work closely together to help give traders the best possible shot at earning a decent income, and to give customers fresh, organic produce wherever possible.

I can’t talk about sustainable friendly places without mentioning Nourish’d, or more specifically, its owner Tash. She’s an eco warrior if I ever met one! One of my favourite cafes to begin with, this plant-based, zero waste cafe and juicery offers vegetation and vegan juices, drinks, nibbles and more. Eager to encourage healthy eating and a healthy earth, I love that they operate with an ethical mindset and are aware that every little bit can make a difference at the end of the day.

The Table Restaurant

The Table Restaurant is a magical little spot near Stellenbosch which is making the list today for its special ethos and locally sourced produce. I love that they are focused on working with organic produce as far as it is possible to do so, and that they help to promote the local economy by working closely with local suppliers and vendors. Their menu changes weekly, and always offers delicious, fresh produce no matter what is on offer. I always enjoy their three course, sharing-style menu which leaves everyone at the table feeling happy and satisfied.
