5 Perfect-for-Summer Healthy Drinks To Try




Summer is officially here! With the hot summer days we've been experiencing here in Cape Town throughout January, I though you might already be thinking about newly inspired delicious foods and treats to keep you cool and satiated. If you’re focusing on maintaining a balanced wellness routine this year, you might have an ounce of fear related to staying with your healthy lifestyle. One way to keep the health vibes going is to mix up a few perfect-for-summer healthy drinks. So why not give one of the following a go?


#1: Frozen Banana Delight


My go to at the moment, especially when it’s a little hotter than usual, is what I call the Frozen Banana Delight. Blend a frozen banana with a cup of almond milk, a bit of peanut or almond butter, as well as a tablespoon of raw cacao. Top it up with ice and you’re good to go! Depending on your taste preference, you could also use half a banana or half a cup of almond milk. Test the waters, tantalise your tastebuds and enjoy!

#2: Purple Berry Blaster


Throwing together a quick summer smoothie is always a good idea, and if you have a handful of blueberries, strawberries, a banana and a dash of milk on hand, you can throw together the Purple Berry Blaster in just a couple of seconds. Blend the ingredients and add a bit of ice if you feel like it, or use frozen blueberries to achieve the same desired effect. You’ll be going back for seconds before you know it.




#3: Coffee or Chocolate Freezochino


Although not necessarily the healthiest choice on the list, if you're a coffee or chocolate lover you can’t go wrong with a tasty freezochino. Perfect for every outing to places like Mugg & Bean, Papa Pronto or even Fournos Bakery, these will have you feeling refreshed in no time, while also filling a sugar craving at the same time. You can even buy the powder itself, blending it at home with two handfuls of ice, and a dash of water. Voila!



#4: Berry Sorbet Splash


I’ve been raving about berry sorbet for years, and although not necessarily a “drink” in its original recipe, if you’re sitting in the sun it transforms into the Berry Sorbet Splash. Blend a cup each of water, frozen mixed berries, vanilla protein powder (yum!) and a teaspoon of vanilla extract until completely smooth. Transfer the mixture to your favourite glass and pile on a few toppings like cinnamon or shredded coconut before putting it in the freezer to set a bit more. Once it’s well set, grab a spoon and a straw, and enjoy sipping on this healthy treat as it melts gently while you’re tanning next to the pool.

#5: Mango Madness


Frozen mango is not something that many people think of right away when it comes to ingredients for a drink, but coupled with a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice and a bit of unsweetened coconut milk, you can create the perfect summer indulgence for you and your loved ones to enjoy. The drink pairs well with vodka and rum too, in case you feel like something a little stronger during family happy hour.
