Regular travel is such an important thing in my life, and if you’ve been following our Instagram account, you’ll know all about some of the recent adventures I’ve had the privilege of going on. These have been especially memorable considering the challenges of the pandemic, which meant months of isolation and uncertainty. In the spirit of getting out there a little more in 2022 and beyond, I wanted to share a few destinations in Africa that are worth putting on your bucket list. These are perfect for when you need a wellness breakaway to reset, reboot and revitalise yourself.
How Travel Contributes to Holistic Health
I’m a big proponent of travel as a contributor to holistic health and wellness. It allows you to switch up your routine from time to time, typically acting as a reprieve from the day-to-day hustle of modern life. Better yet, it helps to improve your perspective on the world, especially alongside the exposure to different cultures, a different way of life and often incredible natural scenery to bask in. That’s not even mentioning the local cuisine and the way it can change your outlook on food in general. Travel does all of this, and so much more.
Tanzania’s economy is primarily stimulated by two things: farming (the spices you can try in the region!) and tourism. The latter is the result of being home to Zanzibar, an island that is the perfect holiday and honeymoon destination for people from all over the world. I love its local cultural centre as much as its stunning, vast scenery. It’s also host to yoga retreat centres that are ideal for when you need to take a break and get your equilibrium back. For advice on specifics to consider, feel free to reach out to me anytime.
Mozambique is so dear to my heart that I ended up spending a few months there in the last quarter of 2021. My heart was aching when I had to leave, all the while knowing that I was going to do what I can to go back as soon as possible this year. Famous for its amazing seafood and breathtaking beach destinations, the country has the ability to bring a smile to anybody’s face. Colina Verde (a luxury villa/wellness retreat) is the ideal destination for groups of between 6 and 18 guests looking to replenish their souls.
I couldn’t possibly leave out South Africa, one of the best wellness destinations in the world. Cape Town might be the first city to spring to mind, but there are actually a host of options to explore all over the country. Even the seclusion of Hoedspruit, near the Kruger National Park, can do wonders as a breakaway. And I'm planning on creating some magic up there soon! If you would like me to help you to create a retreat for you and your friends somewhere in our beautiful country — especially as I have existing relationships in the places we’ve talked about here today — get in touch, and let’s see what we can do.
